What Amazon KDP charges to print 21 common book formats, the lowest list price it accepts and what one copy earns, on all 14 KDP print marketplaces. A 300-page 6 × 9 in novel costs $4.60 to print on Amazon.com and earns $5.59 at $16.99; a 32-page premium color picture book costs $4.20 and earns $3.59 at $12.99. Free CSV and JSON under CC BY 4.0.

Key numbers
- Cheapest to print on Amazon.com: the early chapter book (5.5 × 8.5 in, 96 pages) at $2.30. Dearest: the hardcover storybook (8.25 × 11 in, 76 pages) at $11.73, which earns $0.86 at $20.99.
- Largest share of the price kept as royalty at the typical prices (estimates): the non-fiction guide (6 × 9 in, 200 pages), 40% of $16.99. The novel keeps 33%, the picture book 28%, the hardcover storybook 4%.
- Size: KDP charges by regular or large trim, not by the exact size. 300 black-and-white pages cost $6.10 at 6.14 × 9.21 in, a large trim, and $4.60 at 6 × 9 in.
- One cent matters: the 300-page novel earns $0.39 at $9.98 (50%) and $1.39 at $9.99 (60%), KDP’s 60% threshold on Amazon.com since June 10, 2025.
- KDP didn’t change its printing fees in 2026 (announced May 21, 2026), so these costs hold for the year unless KDP announces otherwise.

Every other KDP print marketplace
In each marketplace’s currency, tax excluded. Amazon.de, .fr, .es, .it, .nl, .ie and .com.be share one printing-cost table and one currency, so they share a table. Hardcovers aren’t sold on Amazon.com.au or Amazon.co.jp, and Canadian hardcovers are sold through Amazon.com in US dollars, as the printing cost calculator shows. Standard color isn’t sold on Amazon.com.au. For Amazon.co.jp, KDP’s trim size page says standard color is currently unavailable while its printing cost page lists a price, so the index leaves it out, as kdpbook’s calculators do.

How the index is computed
Every number comes from the code behind kdpbook.io’s free printing cost and royalty calculators, so the index and the calculators can’t disagree. That code applies KDP’s rules as published on KDP Help and in KDP’s own calculator, checked on September 26, 2026; the same rules are open data on /kdp/data.
- Printing cost: a flat fee for short black-and-white books and short premium color paperbacks, otherwise a fixed fee plus a price per page, by binding, ink and paper, regular or large trim, and marketplace. KDP prints an even page count.
- Minimum list price: twice the printing cost (the cost divided by 0.5) while that is no more than the top of KDP's 50% band ($9.98 on Amazon.com, PLN 39.00 on Amazon.pl), otherwise the higher of the printing cost divided by 0.6 and the 60% threshold.
- Royalty: 60% of the list price minus the printing cost from the 60% threshold up ($9.99, CA$13.99, £7.99, €9.99, PLN 40.00, SEK 110.00, A$13.99 and ¥1,000), 50% below it. Amazon sales only: Expanded Distribution pays 40% and isn’t in the index.
- Minimum list prices and royalties use KDP's unrounded printing cost, as KDP's calculator does, so recomputing them from the rounded cost can be one cent off; the files carry the unrounded cost too (
printing_cost_unrounded). - Typical list price, an estimate: kdpbook’s suggested price for that kind of book, the middle of its indicative US price band (plus $6 for a hardcover), converted at the reference exchange rates of October 5, 2026 and rounded up to a price ending in .99 (whole kronor on Amazon.se, a price ending in 99 yen on Amazon.co.jp), at least about a dollar above the minimum. It isn’t Amazon sales data; set your own price and read your royalty in the royalty calculator.
- List prices and royalties exclude VAT, GST, JCT and sales tax, as KDP sets print prices. Author copies, shipping and Kindle eBooks aren’t covered.
Each row has an anchor made of its marketplace group and the format_id of the files (for example #us-novel-6x9), so an article can link the exact line it quotes. The index is rebuilt from the rulebook whenever a rule changes. KDP changes its fees from time to time: confirm with KDP’s calculator before you set a price.

A 300-page 6 × 9 in novel on cream paper costs $4.60. Short black-and-white books and short premium color paperbacks pay a flat fee, longer ones a fixed fee plus a price per page, set by binding, ink and paper, regular or large trim and marketplace.
How much royalty does KDP pay on a paperback novel?

$5.68 on Amazon.com for a 100-page 8.5 × 11 in black-and-white coloring book: it costs $2.84 to print and KDP pays 50% below $9.99, so the price must be at least twice the printing cost. At $8.99 it earns $1.66 per copy.
Why do some trim sizes cost the same to print?
KDP prices a trim as regular or large, not by its exact size: a trim wider than 6.12 in or taller than 9 in pays the large-trim rate. So 120 black-and-white pages cost $3.04 at 7 × 10 in and $3.04 at A4 (8.27 × 11.69 in), while 300 pages cost $6.10 at 6.14 × 9.21 in and $4.60 at 6 × 9 in.
