1. How kdpbook uses AI
When you generate a book, AI models write the text (unless you import your own manuscript), draw the illustrations and the cover art, and plan the page layout. Your prompts, settings and imported text are sent to our AI providers to produce the book. The KDP rules (trim, margins, bleed, spine, page limits) are applied by our own code, not by AI.
Books made with kdpbook are therefore AI-generated content in the sense of KDP’s guidelines, even after you edit them.
2. You must disclose AI content to KDP
Amazon KDP requires publishers to declare AI-generated text, images and translations when they publish or republish a book, separately for each format. When you publish a book made with kdpbook, answer Yes to the AI question and declare the parts that were generated. The export sheet of each book suggests the answers based on what was actually generated. You are responsible for the answers you give. More in our AI disclosure guide.
3. Selling your books
- Paid plans (Starter, Author, Studio) include a commercial license: you may sell the books you make, on KDP or elsewhere, under your own name, and you get files without the watermark.
- Free plan books (600 credits on signup) are for personal use and evaluation. Their exports carry a “kdpbook.io preview” watermark and must not be sold. Upgrade and export again to get clean, sellable files, including for books you made before upgrading.
- Whatever the plan, you remain responsible for what you publish: that it respects other people’s rights, KDP’s content guidelines and the law. kdpbook doesn’t guarantee that KDP or any other store will accept a book.
4. Community publication
Books made on the free plan are published in the community library when they are finished, with their title, cover, pages and, if you choose, the prompt behind them. On a paid plan you can keep books private or share them with an unlisted link. You can remove a book from the community at any time by deleting it. We may hide community books that break this policy.
5. What isn’t allowed
- Characters, logos, brands or titles that belong to someone else (for example well-known cartoon characters), and books that imitate a specific living author or artist’s work.
- Photorealistic images of real people, and content about real people that is false, private or harmful.
- Sexual content of any kind involving minors, and any sexual content in books for children.
- Hate, harassment, violent extremism, or content that encourages self-harm or dangerous activities.
- Medical, legal or financial claims presented as professional advice, and made-up facts presented as true in non-fiction.
- Mass-producing near-identical books, or content designed to mislead buyers (misleading covers, fake reviews, fake “bestseller” badges).
We filter prompts and results for some of these, but filters aren’t perfect: reading your book before publishing it is part of the job.
6. Quality and honesty
AI can make mistakes: wrong facts, odd details in pictures, inconsistent names. Read every page and check every illustration before you publish. KDP can remove books that give readers a poor experience, and it limits new titles to a few per format each week, so publishing fewer, better books is the sustainable approach.
