Format rules to know
- Content uploaded in an eBook-only language can’t be converted into a paperback, and content in a paperback-only language can’t become a Kindle eBook or a hardcover.
- Japanese has no hardcover. KDP prints right-to-left paperbacks only in Hebrew, Yiddish and Japanese, and paperbacks in those three languages aren’t eligible for Expanded Distribution.
- Choose the language in your Bookshelf that matches the written content: KDP rejects files whose language doesn’t match.
Languages KDP doesn’t support
Authors often ask about Korean, Russian, Turkish, Greek, Czech, Romanian, Hungarian, Chinese (Simplified), Vietnamese and Indonesian. None of them is on KDP’s list as of September 28, 2026. KDP says eBooks uploaded in an unsupported language won’t display properly on Kindle devices and will be removed from sale.

Which languages are eBook only on KDP?
Arabic, Chinese (Traditional), Gujarati, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi and Tamil. KDP can't turn content in an eBook-only language into a paperback.
Which languages are print only on KDP?
Polish, Ukrainian and Yiddish can be paperbacks and hardcovers (Yiddish hardcovers left to right only), but not Kindle eBooks.
