What Canva is
An online design editor with templates, a stock library and AI tools (Magic Media for images on every plan; Magic Edit, Magic Expand and others on Pro). For a KDP book you set a custom page size, design each page or the cover, and download a PDF Print file: 300 dpi, with bleed and crop marks, and a CMYK option on paid plans. A design holds up to 350 pages.

Which one should you choose?
Choose Canva if…
- You want to hand-design every page or the cover and already have the content.
- You also need ads, social posts and other marketing graphics.
- Your book is short enough that designing page by page is practical.
Choose kdpbook.io if…
- You want the whole book produced: text, art, layout and files.
- You'd rather not compute gutters, bleed and spine width yourself.
- You need a Kindle eBook as well as print.
- Characters must look the same on every page.
Questions
Can I upload a Canva PDF to KDP?
Yes, if it follows KDP's rules: an interior with bleed sized at the trim + 0.125 in wide and + 0.25 in tall, an inside margin that grows with the page count, and a cover that is one PDF (back, spine and front) sized with KDP's cover calculator, without crop marks. In Canva, you set these by hand.
Can I sell a book designed with Canva on KDP?
Canva's help says you can sell original books and e-books designed with its content, but not its content on a standalone basis, and unedited Pro content in e-books is capped at 480,000 pixels. Images from its AI tools fall under its AI Product Terms instead. kdpbook.io's paid plans include a commercial license for exported books; free-plan exports carry a watermark and are not for sale.
Is kdpbook.io a Canva alternative for KDP?
For making the book itself, yes: kdpbook.io lays out 36 book types to KDP's trim, bleed, margin and spine rules and exports the interior PDF, full-wrap cover and Kindle EPUB. It isn't a general design tool: for ads, social posts or a cover you want to design by hand, Canva remains the better fit.
