Ella’s Last Little Job

by Saad Sharif

Ella has one bedtime job left: put her toy train away before she climbs into bed. She gathers the engine and two carriages and lowers them into their box—but the train is too long. One carriage hangs over the edge, and Ella must find a way to make everything fit without forcing it.

With a sleepy yawn and a thoughtful “Hmm,” Ella tries a new arrangement. The pieces settle side by side, but when she folds the box’s lining cloth into a blanket, the lid still won’t close. Ella’s own quilt gives her a clue. Can she tuck the train in with less fuss—and finish her job before she’s too tired to tuck herself in?

Soft sounds, gentle humor, and a caring preschool hero make this a cozy read-aloud for bedtime. Ella’s small problem invites young listeners to enjoy her patient thinking as the evening grows quieter.
