Two Taps, Gracie

by Tara Thompson

Gracie has a special touch for helping Mom and Papa: two nose-taps on every cloth. But today, there’s no time for extra taps. The picnic napkins need to reach the porch before the snack bell rings.

Mom rolls alongside Gracie and asks for the napkins. Papa prepares pears with his thick-handled spoon while Mom balances the picnic tray on her lap. Gracie gathers the cloths into a basket and sets off—but a dangling corner catches underneath, and the basket wedges sideways in the doorway. The timer keeps ticking, and the picnic is waiting. Can Gracie find another way to deliver the napkins?

With lively sounds, expressive illustrations, and a resourceful dog at the heart of the adventure, Two Taps, Gracie is a warm read-aloud about persistence, adapting when a plan goes awry, and helping out at home. Young children can follow each small challenge as Gracie tries again, one careful step at a time.

“Two taps, Gracie!” Every cloth got two nose-taps before she helped Mom and Papa.
Mom rolled beside her. “Napkins, please, and off we go!” She knew that drawer.
Tap-tap! Gracie’s nose pushed the napkin beneath the folding shelf. Oops! Not there!
