Kitty

by Tanay Patil

It begins with a lab problem and a call from someone I barely know. I offer to help, expecting nothing more than a task to finish. But as we work side by side, her kindness and calm presence stay with me—and ordinary moments begin to feel different.

In Kitty, a college student looks back on the greetings, classes, projects, and conversations that draw him closer to a fellow student. His feelings deepen, while hers do not seem to match his. As old friendships, new opportunities, and academic responsibilities pull him in different directions, he must consider what fairness means and how much to reveal. Can he be honest about his feelings without letting them decide for someone else?

This reflective illustrated story follows one young man through the uncertainty of connection, unreturned affection, and choices that test his priorities. Its quiet moments invite readers to think about how a small act of help can change the way we see another person—and what it means to care while respecting the other person's feelings.
