Kira’s Curious Compass of the Deep

by Jennah day

Kira has a map with skull marks, one thin path, and a blank circle she longs to fill. In her imagined sea of Kabriah, she sets off with a wax crayon to discover what lies there.

Kelp sways across the route, hiding a grin. When Kira looks closer, she finds wooden skull carvings and the sunken ships they belong to—all pointing toward the empty circle. But the map’s neat line leads straight to a fallen mast tangled with ropes. Kira cannot pass that way. The circle is still waiting, and the map has no other route.

Rather than turn back, Kira watches the sea around her. Bubbles rise beyond the ships. Could there be a way through that her map has missed? To reach the place she wants to explore, Kira will need to look carefully, trust her curiosity, and draw a path of her own.

Kira’s Curious Compass of the Deep is a playful underwater adventure about observation, imagination, and finding another way when the first path is blocked. With rhythmic language and vivid ocean details, Kira’s journey makes a lively read-aloud for young explorers and a charming story to share with an early reader.
