Inky and the Borrowed Shell

by Created by Garry Sloan

Inky has made a promise: return Oona’s borrowed shell to her kitchen, just in time for sand buns. But a sudden swish leaves Inky’s front tentacle empty—and curious, five-ridged tracks appear in the sand.

Determined to find the missing shell, Inky follows every mark through the reef. The trail loops, doubles back, and seems to appear wherever Inky has just been. Is the shell sneaking away, or is something else going on? With Oona waiting and a promise to keep, Inky must slow down, look closely, and figure out what the tracks are telling them.

This gently silly underwater adventure invites preschoolers to notice patterns alongside Inky. With lively movement, playful repetition, and a warm friendship at its heart, it’s a delightful story to share aloud and enjoy together.
