The Treasure Beneath the Old Oak

by Bianca Grobbelaar

A woodland treasure hunt becomes a lovely lesson in what is worth sharing.

Mina and Theo discover a crinkled map beneath an old oak and set off in search of gold. The trail leads past a rolling apple, a sparkling brook, and a hill with clouds to watch. But when Pip needs help gathering apples and Bram faces a muddy crossing, the friends pause their hunt to lend a hand.

At last, they return to the oak and uncover a little chest. Inside are golden leaves, acorns, and a tiny beetle—not quite the treasure Mina imagined. Then familiar friends arrive, and a picnic brings everyone together. Could the best treasure be the kindness, laughter, and companionship they found along the way?

With a gentle woodland adventure, playful read-aloud moments, and 14 illustrations, this picture book is made for sharing with preschoolers ages 3–5. Its warm story invites little listeners to enjoy helping others and to discover that some treasures are better when shared. It is written in English and includes a “This book belongs to” page.

Something crinkled beneath the old oak.
“Gold!” whispered Mina. “A whole chestful!”
“Treasure ahead!” they sang, stepping smartly.
