The Cloudmakers
by Mike Bignall
Far out at sea, where few people know to look, the cloudmakers sail in tiny boats. These little folk travel across the waves, gather cups of seawater, and carefully check that it is clean before pouring it into a curious cloud-making machine.
Then comes a little poof—and fluffy clouds filled with rain and snow rise into the sky. The cloudmakers’ quiet work matters far beyond the sea: rain helps flowers grow, snowmelt feeds rivers, and the land provides grain and cotton. But what would happen to life ashore if the waters were fouled with rubbish?
The Cloudmakers is a gentle bedtime story in rhyme about small workers with an important task and the connection between clean seas and the world we share. Its imaginative boats, woolly coats, and floating clouds make a soothing read-aloud, with a thoughtful reminder to care for our waters. Settle in together and follow the cloudmakers’ careful work from the sea toward the land.
