Milo Counts the Yawns

by Panagiotis Danousis

Milo knows what Papa’s yawns mean: his dad is getting sleepy. And tonight, Milo has a plan. “I’m putting you to bed.”

First, Papa needs a helping paw to get up and make his way to the bedroom. Then Milo has to figure out how to cover his big bear from shoulders to toes. The quilt seems too short—until Milo discovers a fold that changes everything.

But bedtime brings one more challenge. Milo counts each yawn, and Papa keeps answering. Even when the bed is cozy and Papa’s eyes are closing, another number makes him look up. Milo wants to keep track, but how can Papa drift off if he is waiting for the next word?

Milo Counts the Yawns is a gentle picture-book story about a little bear paying attention to what his dad needs. With soft shuff-shuff steps, a tuck-in that takes some figuring out, and a quiet bedtime dilemma, Milo and Papa make a tender read-aloud for preschoolers and the grown-ups who share bedtime with them.
