Iris and the Moonlit Gems

by Rebecca moon

Princess Iris has a dish beside her bed and a wish for gems to make a little moon. With Ada, her fairy friend, she searches the garden for something special to fill it.

First, bright specks shimmer beyond the fountain rim. Iris reaches carefully, but the sparkle moves with the water. Then Ada spots a glimmer beyond the ivy. Iris is so busy checking her pockets that she nearly misses where Ada is pointing. What will they find there—and will Iris discover something that belongs in her dish?

Iris’s familiar treasures are close at hand: a glass bead, a silver button, and a shell. But the garden’s glimmers lead her to think about what makes a treasure, and what it means to leave something where it belongs. With a gentle bedtime mood and small moments of curiosity, this story invites young readers to notice the special things they already carry.

Softly rhythmic details and a tender friendship make Iris’s search a lovely story to share aloud at bedtime.
