When he plants a seed, he wants a flower right now: he digs it up to check, gives it a whole bucket of water, and shines his lamp on it all night. Nothing grows. His neighbor Rosa, a girl with a straw hat, shows him what seeds need: soil, sun, a little water and time. Bolt learns to wait. He counts the days, draws the sprout in his notebook, and chases off a hungry snail. At last the garden grows tall: beans, sunflowers and red tomatoes. Bolt shares the tomatoes with the whole street. Short sentences, simple sight words, a gentle repeated line ("Grow, seed, grow!").”
