Holiday books on KDP are often picture books, kids’ coloring and activity books, bedtime stories and cozy coloring books for adults. Below: what KDP’s own pages say about timing, a week-by-week plan, ten original ideas you can start from, and the rules that trip up seasonal books.

## When should you publish a Christmas book on KDP in 2026?

KDP gives maximum times, not dates. Its [Timelines](https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G202173620) and [Book Status](https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G200627450) pages say (read October 15, 2026):

| Step | What KDP says |
| --- | --- |
| Review, most books | up to 3 business days to go live after you submit |
| New paperback or hardcover detail page | up to 72 hours on Amazon.com and up to 5 days on other marketplaces |
| An account’s first book | publishing may take up to 6 days |
| Low-content books (journals, planners, notebooks) | reviews may take 3-4 weeks, due to higher-than-normal publishing volumes |
| New titles per week | 2 created and 2 submitted per format ([Create a Book](https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G202172740)) |

If KDP finds something to fix, the book goes back to Draft and the clock starts again when you resubmit; books are reviewed in the order KDP receives them, and support can’t speed a review up. Seasonal books feel this most, so count from the slowest figure that applies to your book, not the fastest.

## How do you plan the weeks before?

- **Finish the files first.** Create the title in KDP the week you can submit it: a draft set up early still waits for one of the 2 submission slots of its format that week.
- **Order a proof copy.** Only paper shows the real colors and spine. Its shipping cost and options depend on the destination and speed, and appear at checkout ([KDP Help](https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/GG6GRS7TKXVG6AGW)); leave time for a second proof if you fix something.
- **Journals and planners go first.** With low-content reviews that may take 3-4 weeks, a holiday journal or a 2027 planner submitted in early November can still be on sale in early December.
- **A series goes out over several weeks.** At 2 first submissions per format a week, four Christmas paperbacks span two of KDP’s weeks (each starts on Sunday at 12:00 AM UTC); the Kindle edition of a picture book has its own count.

## Which KDP rules catch holiday books?

- **Characters and brands**: draw your own. Many characters from films, songs, books and toys are protected by copyright or trademark, and KDP refuses infringing content in the art, the title and the keywords ([Content Guidelines](https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G200672390)).
- **Coloring and activity books are print only**: KDP lists books meant to be colored or written in as not suited to Kindle ([Kindle content quality](https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G200952510)).
- **Journals and planners are low-content**: no free KDP ISBN and no Expanded Distribution ([low-content books](https://kdpbook.io/glossary/low-content)), and the longer review above.
- **Keep the listing evergreen**: KDP keeps promotions out of the title ([Metadata Guidelines](https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201097560)) and time-sensitive information, prices and availability out of the description ([Write a Book Description](https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201189630)), so describe “a Christmas picture book”, not a holiday offer.
- **AI disclosure**: declare AI-generated text and images when you publish, as for any book ([KDP AI policy explained](https://kdpbook.io/guides/kdp-ai-content-disclosure)).

## How do you make one with kdpbook?

Pick an idea above or describe your own. kdpbook writes, illustrates and lays out the book to KDP’s trim, bleed and spine rules, then exports the interior PDF, the full-wrap cover and, for [picture books](https://kdpbook.io/book-types/ai-picture-book-generator), a fixed-layout Kindle eBook. New accounts get 2,000 free credits, enough for a 32-page picture book; selling the book needs a paid plan, from $25/month. The picture book and coloring guides cover the format choices: [publishing a picture book](https://kdpbook.io/guides/how-to-publish-a-childrens-picture-book-on-kdp) and [making a coloring book](https://kdpbook.io/guides/how-to-make-a-coloring-book-for-kdp).

## Questions

Q: When should I publish a Christmas book on KDP?
A: Early enough for KDP's maximum review times plus a proof copy. KDP says a book takes up to 3 business days to go live, a new paperback or hardcover's page appears within up to 72 hours on Amazon.com and up to 5 days on other marketplaces, publishing may take up to 6 days for an account's first book, and low-content reviews (journals, planners) may take 3-4 weeks (KDP Help, read October 15, 2026). These are maximums KDP gives, not dates it promises.

Q: Can I use famous Christmas characters in my KDP book?
A: Use your own characters. Many characters from books, films, songs and toys, such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or the Grinch, are protected by copyright or trademark, and KDP's content guidelines refuse content that infringes someone's copyright or trademark, including in the art, the title and the keywords.

Q: Can I sell a Christmas coloring book as a Kindle eBook?
A: No. KDP lists coloring books among books not suited to Kindle, because they are meant to be colored in, so a Christmas coloring book is published as a paperback (or a hardcover).

Q: How many Christmas books can I publish per week on KDP?
A: 2 new titles per format: since October 5, 2026, KDP's Create a Book help page limits the new titles you submit for publication per format each week, next to the titles you create. A Christmas series of four paperbacks therefore goes out over two of KDP's weeks, which reset every Sunday at 12:00 AM UTC.
